Did You Know ... A new theory suggests legendary composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart died at 35 due in part to a vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is produced when the body is exposed to UV rays however Mozart spent his entire life at high-latitude in Austria, working at night and sleeping during the day. According to ABC Science, who had no knowledge of this condition, Mozart went untreated and died from illnesses brought on by vitamin D deficiency!
How Does My Skin Actually Tan?
Our natural skin colour [or skin type] is determined by skin pigment also referred to as melanin. The amount of melanin present in our skin, before UV exposure, is determined by hereditary factors. When our skin is exposed to UV rays, cells deep within our skin – called melanocytes – initiate a process where more melanin is produced. This subsequently ‘browns’ as it rises to the skin’s surface producing a tan. UV also causes the outer layer of the skin to thicken. This is the body’s way of building up protection to UV and to avoid burning. Is Health Conscious Tanning Really Possible? People will react differently to UV rays – darker skinned people produce melanin more readily. The skin of some very fair people contains very little melanin and, even when exposed to UV, they cannot form melanin, so they will not tan in sunlight or on a sunbed. The latter group should keep UV exposure to a minimum and not strive to obtain a tan. Instead, skin type 1 clients should utilise our tanning equipment purely for the benefits of natural vitamin D formation How can I Avoid Sunburn? If the natural tanning process is rushed, sunburn will result. Our skin has a natural repair mechanism but if this is triggered off too frequently, it may become exhausted and result in permanent damage to the skin. TGLS can educate you in how to safely speed-tan your skin. Please ask to speak with Michelle |
